In keeping with international standards and best practice for Complementary Therapy training, SHAI now specifies new guidelines for our Practitioner members regarding their use of the job title of Sound Therapist. 

A Practitioner of Therapeutic Sound (Sound Healing Practitioner) may use the Job Title of Sound Therapist only if they have also completed a recognised qualification in Anatomy & Physiology, or they already hold a higher qualification in a recognised Complementary Therapy which included Anatomy & Physiology or Mental Health or higher qualification in Medicine or related Health Science.

Examples of those who may use the Job Title of Sound Therapist on completion of their Sound Healing / Sound Therapy Practitioner studies include: (but not limited to)

  • Acupuncturist
  • Bowen Therapist
  • Hypnotherapist
  • Iridologist
  • Massage Therapist
  • Medical Herbalist
  • Naturopath
  • Reflexologist
  • Registered Nurse
  • Pharmacist
  • Music Therapist
  • Psychotherapist

and so on. 

Reiki Master/Teacher, School Teacher, or other Teachers not otherwise trained in Anatomy & Physiology are specifically not included on this list.

SHAI Approved Training Providers are advised to update their curriculum as necessary commencing in the new year of 2024.
